The UAE Federal Authority for Government Human Resources revealed the official Eid Al Fitr holiday dates on Monday. The holiday will run from Shawwal 1 through Shawwal 3, 1446 AH.
Officials will add Sunday, March 30 (Ramadan 30) to the holiday if Ramadan lasts the full 30 days. The moon sighting will occur on March 29. Islamic months typically span 29 or 30 days. Muslims celebrate Eid on Shawwal 1 to end Ramadan.
If observers spot the crescent moon on March 29, Eid Al Fitr will begin Sunday, March 30. Government employees will then enjoy a three-day holiday through April 1. This creates a four-day weekend since Saturday is already a non-working day for most UAE workers.
If the moon remains hidden on March 29 and Ramadan extends to 30 days, Eid will start Monday, March 31. This scenario gives employees a three-day celebration from March 31 to April 2. Residents would then enjoy a five-day weekend from March 29 through April 2.
Sharjah government workers benefit even more. With Friday as their regular weekend, they could enjoy either a five-day break (if Eid starts March 30) or a six-day holiday (if Eid begins March 31).
