RIYADH — The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has welcomed the signing of a peace declaration between the governments of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and Rwanda, praising the move as a step toward lasting regional stability.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Saudi Arabia appreciated the diplomatic efforts by both nations and expressed hope that their commitment to the declaration would lead to greater peace and cooperation in the region.
The declaration was signed by the foreign ministers of Rwanda and the DRC during a meeting at the U.S. State Department in Washington on Friday. The agreement outlines intentions to draft a full peace deal by May 2, reaffirming respect for each other’s sovereignty and a pledge to cease support for armed groups in eastern DRC, where violence resumed in October 2024.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry emphasized that such progress in African diplomacy aligns with the Kingdom’s support for international peace-building initiatives, especially in conflict-prone areas.
