Saudi Arabia is reshaping the global gaming industry with a bold strategy to become a leader in gaming and eSports. The kingdom plans to create 30,000 new jobs and contribute $13.3 billion to its economy by 2030. The Saudi Arabia gaming industry is a key driver of this growth.

Strong Start with Major Gaming Investments

In 2024, Saudi Arabia accounted for 20% of gaming revenues in the MENA region. The country’s strategic investments include a $4.9 billion purchase of Scopely, a leading mobile game developer. This move paid off quickly. Scopely’s breakout title, Monopoly Go!, earned $3 billion and was named Game of the Year.

Saudi Arabia also invested in major players like ESL FACEIT Group and Embracer Group. These investments give the kingdom significant influence in mobile gaming and competitive eSports, further solidifying its role in digital entertainment.

Vision for eSports and Gaming Jobs

Saudi Arabia aims to generate over $187 billion annually in gaming revenue. By 2030, the kingdom plans to create 30,000 new jobs in gaming and eSports. Saudi Arabia gaming industry efforts will help make Riyadh a global hub for digital entertainment. This initiative aligns with Saudi Vision 2030, which focuses on diversifying the economy and driving technological innovation.

Hosting Major Gaming Events

Saudi Arabia is already hosting world-class gaming events. The first eSports World Cup, held in Riyadh from July 3 to August 25, 2025, featured 1,500 athletes and a $60 million prize pool. This event helped promote Riyadh as a key tourism destination.

Additionally, Saudi Arabia will host the first Olympic eSports Series in 2027. These events showcase the kingdom’s growing influence in the gaming world and its ability to attract international players and fans.

The Potential of iGaming

While Saudi Arabia focuses on video games and eSports, the kingdom is also exploring the iGaming sector. Global iGaming revenue is expected to reach $172 billion by 2030. Many countries are legalizing online gambling to generate tax revenues and attract foreign investment.

Though gambling is culturally sensitive in Saudi Arabia, there is growing recognition of its economic potential. The government is looking at iGaming partnerships and technologies that could be deployed in regulated markets. By doing so, Saudi Arabia can tap into a new revenue stream without directly embracing gambling.

The Future of Gaming in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia’s investments in gaming and eSports are setting the stage for continued growth. The kingdom’s leadership in digital entertainment will help drive its economic diversification under Saudi Vision 2030. These efforts are already making a significant impact on the global gaming and eSports industries.
