Gaza’s Humanitarian Crisis Escalates as Israeli Offensive Intensifies
The situation in Gaza City has been described as “cataclysmic” by a UN official, as Israeli tanks and troops continue their ground offensive. Over the past three days, Israeli forces have intensified their assault, leading to widespread displacement and devastating consequences for the civilian population.
According to the UN’s humanitarian office, Gaza City’s streets are packed with displaced Palestinians fleeing the northern regions, but many are left without shelter or resources in the south. The World Health Organization (WHO) has reported that hospitals are nearing collapse due to insufficient supplies and overcrowding.
Continued Israeli Strikes and Military Operations
The Israeli military’s operations in Gaza are focused on dismantling Hamas infrastructure and rescuing hostages held by the militant group. However, the offensive has faced international backlash due to the significant civilian casualties and the destruction of civilian infrastructure. Local hospitals reported at least 14 deaths from Israeli airstrikes on Thursday, with many others suffering from severe injuries caused by bombings.
Worsening Conditions for Civilians
Despite evacuation orders, many Palestinians are unable to flee due to the prohibitive cost of transportation and the absence of adequate shelter. According to the UN, thousands of civilians are living on the streets with limited access to food, clean water, and medical care.
The WHO has raised alarms over the lack of medical supplies and the growing malnutrition crisis. With hospitals overwhelmed, many patients, including those with disabilities, are left in grave danger.
