Tehran, Iran — Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed that Iran is ready to engage in indirect talks with the United States over its nuclear programme during negotiations scheduled for Saturday in Oman. However, he emphasized that President Donald Trump must first rule out any “military option” before meaningful progress can be made.
Speaking via an op-ed in The Washington Post, Araghchi insisted that Iran will not accept coercion, even as the US calls for the full dismantling of its nuclear programme. Trump, meanwhile, warned Iran would be in “great danger” if talks fail and has floated a “Libyan-style” disarmament plan, a proposal Tehran firmly rejects.
Iran has been breaching nuclear deal limits in response to US sanctions reinstated after Trump withdrew from the 2015 JCPOA agreement. Experts warn Iran now has enough enriched uranium for multiple nuclear weapons if processed further.
While Iran insists its nuclear efforts are peaceful, the upcoming Oman talks mark a pivotal moment in restoring diplomacy. Tehran says the “ball is in America’s court,” demanding mutual respect and long-term commitment from Washington.
