The Prince William and Kate move to Forest Lodge in Windsor signals a new chapter for the family. They will leave Adelaide Cottage, their four-bedroom home, and settle into an eight-bedroom residence in Windsor Great Park with their children George, Charlotte, and Louis.
Royal insiders say the change offers a “fresh start” after recent challenges. Since moving to Adelaide Cottage in 2022, the family faced the loss of Queen Elizabeth II and serious health issues for both King Charles and Catherine. Moving now gives them a chance to leave difficult memories behind and focus on stability.
Forest Lodge combines historic charm with elegance. The property was restored in 2001 at a cost of £1.5 million. It later went on the rental market for £15,000 a month. Features include Venetian windows, ornate plasterwork, a vaulted hallway, and a chandelier-lit ballroom. Surrounded by 4,800 acres of Windsor Great Park, the home also offers private grounds, a tennis court, and sweeping views.
The couple will fund the move privately. As at Adelaide Cottage, they will pay market rent and not use the Sovereign Grant. They will also continue to live without live-in staff. Insiders suggest Forest Lodge could serve as their “forever home,” remaining a base even when William and Catherine become King and Queen. This reflects their desire for privacy and balance in family life.
The choice also reflects Catherine’s deep love of nature. During her cancer treatment, she spoke about the natural world as her “sanctuary.” She described it as a place of healing and strength. Earlier this year, she launched the Mother Nature video series to share that passion. Living in Windsor Great Park will allow her to embrace those beliefs more fully.
The family plan to complete their move before Christmas. Their children will remain at Lambrook School, where all three are enrolled. They will still use Anmer Hall in Norfolk during holidays, while Kensington Palace continues to house their offices. Friends say they hope Forest Lodge will bring “many happy memories” and serve as a long-term home.
For royal observers, the Prince William and Kate move carries more meaning than a change of address. It represents their wish to move forward with stability and hope. Forest Lodge is not just a house. It stands as a symbol of resilience, healing, and the future of the monarchy.
