Jordan Dissolves Muslim Brotherhood, Citing National Security Threats

1 min read

Jordan dissolves Muslim Brotherhood in a sweeping crackdown that marks a significant shift in the Kingdom’s internal security policy. The announcement, made by Interior Minister Mazen Faraya during a press conference, follows the arrest of 16 group members and the closure of all Brotherhood offices across the country.

The minister emphasized that the organization’s continued activity posed “a threat to national unity and stability,” accusing the Brotherhood of harboring weapons, inciting division, and plotting to disrupt sensitive areas of the Kingdom. A judicial decree has officially outlawed all affiliations with the group, and a dissolution committee is overseeing the confiscation of its assets.

Security forces have sealed the Brotherhood’s headquarters and satellite branches, enforcing the ban with immediate effect. Authorities say the crackdown aims to eliminate internal threats and preserve public order. The move to dissolve the Muslim Brotherhood, one of the region’s most influential Islamist movements, reflects mounting concerns over extremism and covert operations.

According to Minister Faraya, the group’s ideological stance and hidden agendas are “incompatible with Jordanian values and cohesion.” He warned against any further attempts to revive its network under new names or fronts.

In tandem with the security operations, the Jordanian Media Commission issued a warning to all media outlets and individuals, stressing that any form of publication or promotion of Brotherhood-related content will result in legal consequences.

The decision to dissolve the Muslim Brotherhood adds Jordan to the growing list of countries in the Middle East taking a hardline stance against the organization. Analysts say this measure reinforces the government’s intent to curb political Islam’s influence while responding to rising regional tensions.

With the group officially banned, Jordan now enters a new phase of political recalibration—one where the state reasserts its control over religious and ideological narratives in public life. The enforcement of the ban is expected to continue with further arrests and asset seizures as investigations unfold.
