UAE shoppers are increasingly securing gold rates before completing their festive purchases, according to jewellers, as price swings encourage earlier planning ahead of Dhanteras.

The trend is particularly noticeable among customers buying wedding jewellery or making larger purchases. By booking ahead under a retailer’s price-protection scheme, buyers can reduce uncertainty about the gold rate applied when they complete their purchase.

Dhanteras falls on Friday, November 6, 2026, followed by Diwali on Sunday, November 8. Retailers are combining advance-booking arrangements with making-charge discounts, gifts and other seasonal offers.

UAE gold prices rise ahead of Dhanteras

On the morning of November 4, reported UAE gold rates stood at:

Gold purityReported price per gram
24KAED 484
22KAED 448.25

The 24K rate had fallen to AED 467 per gram over the preceding weekend before recovering, illustrating the price changes facing buyers during the festive period. These are dated reference rates, not live quotations or complete jewellery prices. Khaleej Times

Making charges, stones and applicable taxes can increase the final bill beyond the metal value.

Why shoppers are booking gold earlier

Jewellers say customers who have already decided to purchase are paying closer attention to timing.

Chirag Vora, managing director and CEO of Bafleh Jewellers, said price locking helps customers plan with greater confidence, especially when buying substantial amounts of jewellery.

Anil Dhanak, managing director of Kanz Jewels, similarly highlighted interest in price protection among Indian expatriates preparing for Dhanteras, an occasion traditionally associated with buying gold.

For these customers, advance booking is primarily a way to manage the cost of an intended purchase. Whether a particular scheme offers good value depends on its terms and the total jewellery price.

Malabar offers price locking with a 25% advance

Malabar Gold & Diamonds says its festive scheme allows customers to secure prevailing gold rates until November 8 by paying 25% of the purchase value upfront.

Shamlal Ahamed, managing director of international operations, said the arrangement had attracted strong interest from customers preparing for Dhanteras.

Buyers should establish exactly what the advance secures. A locked gold rate does not necessarily mean that making charges, stone prices or the full purchase amount are fixed.

Before paying, useful questions include:

  • What happens if the gold rate falls before collection?
  • Which jewellery collections qualify?
  • When must the balance be paid?
  • Can the booking be cancelled, and is the advance refundable?
  • Can other festive discounts be used with the booking?

The answers depend on the retailer’s written conditions.

Dubai’s Diwali Gold Rush offers 1kg in prizes

The Diwali Gold Rush promotion runs until November 12 across more than 170 participating jewellery outlets.

The campaign page states that shoppers receive one digital raffle coupon for every AED 1,500 spent on qualifying jewellery purchases. The prize pool totals 1kg of 22K gold, divided between:

Prize categoryAllocation
Dhanteras prizesFive winners receive 100g each
Grand prizeOne winner receives 500g

According to the campaign page, purchases made through November 6 qualify for both draws, while purchases from November 7 to 12 qualify for the grand draw only. Shoppers should confirm that their specific outlet participates and complete the required entry process. ShopAndWinRewards

A jeweller’s own Diwali promotion and participation in the citywide raffle are separate matters, so customers should check both before buying.

Making charges and craftsmanship shape the final value

Retailers say shoppers are increasingly considering more than the daily gold rate.

Two pieces with the same purity and gold weight can have different final prices because of craftsmanship, design, stones and making charges. A large advertised discount therefore needs to be assessed against the complete invoice.

Cost componentWhat to check
Gold valuePurity, net gold weight and rate used
Making chargesAmount charged and how any discount is calculated
StonesSeparate weight, price and description where applicable
TaxesCharges shown on the final invoice
Exchange termsValuation method and deductions for old jewellery
Advance bookingRate protection, deadline and cancellation conditions

For customers exchanging older jewellery, the amount credited towards a new purchase is as important as the discount on the replacement piece.

With Dhanteras approaching, jewellers expect buying interest to strengthen. For shoppers already planning a purchase, the clearest comparison is the total amount payable for the chosen jewellery, together with the written terms of any price lock or festive offer.
